New cases of the coronavirus confirmed all over the globe amidst rising death toll in China
Chinese authorities have confirmed more than 1,200 cases of people infected with the deadly coronavirus. The coronavirus outbreak from China has claimed the lives of a total of 56 people in the country. Of these, 15 belong to Hubei, a landlocked province in Central China from where the outbreak first spread out. The infection that is capable of being spread through direct contact has also claimed the life of one doctor at a hospital in the province.
So far, there is no significant cure or vaccine against the virus which can lead to pneumonia among infected patients. However, reports from the South China Morning Post suggest that scientists are currently underway developing a vaccine for the virus. Other countries in Asia have also reported confirmed cases of the virus with five in Thailand, three each in Singapore and Japan, two each in Vietnam and South Korea and singular cases in Taiwan and Nepal and Malaysia. The novel coronavirus has also made its way to other far off parts of the world such as Canada, France, Australia and the US.
California joined the list of places in the US to have reported a confirmed case of the virus after the same was detected earlier in Chicago and Seattle. Orange County Health Care Agency announced the case in a press release: “The case, a traveler from Wuhan, China, has been in contact with the HCA and was provided guidance in order to reduce exposure to the public while awaiting laboratory confirmation from the CDC. The individual has now been transported to a local hospital and is in isolation in good condition.”
The Chinese authorities, apart from placing lockdown at several cities in the country, have also announced the construction of a new hospital in Wuhan for coronavirus patients, which will be completed in less than a week. The special 1000-bed hospital will be erected using prefabricated buildings.
